Teeth whitening is simple and effective

In the age of social media we find ourselves posing for more photos than ever. Never have people had to show off their smiles so much before, and getting a bright white smile isn’t as hard as you might think.

If there is any dental treatment that can transform the appearance of your smile quickly and easily it’s teeth whitening. Revert years of staining on your teeth with a simple appointment with one of our tooth whitening dentists in Cradley Heath, Birmingham and enjoy the smile you’ve always wanted.

Why do our teeth become stained?

Teeth become stained over time by the food and drink we consume, and also from smoking and even some types of medication. This results in your teeth becoming more “yellow”, and not matter how hard you might try it can’t be reversed by brushing alone.

Staining is most commonly associated with dark coloured foods and drink, including red wine, fizzy drinks, sauces, coffee and even some fruits such as grapes and blueberries. They all contain chromogens, which are pigment producing substances that sick to the enamel of your teeth.

Acidic foods can make the situation worse by eroding the enamel of your teeth and making it easier for chromogens to stick.

It is important to note that most stains cannot be removed by brushing alone. In order to remove the effects of staining you need specialised treatment such as the teeth whitening we provide at Benson Dental.

How does teeth whitening work?

Teeth before and after Teeth Whitening treatment

Teeth whitening requires an initial appointment with your dentist, who will be required to check your teeth over before teeth whitening can begin.

Impressions of your teeth will be taken and used to create a carefully created custom whitening tray, which allows you whiten your teeth safely and effectively. This tray prevents the whitening agent from being applied to your gums.

Once your tray is made, you will be able to use it with a special teeth whitening gel, containing peroxide, a bleaching agent used to remove the effects of staining. Following the directions by your dentist, this will be used to whiten the shade of your teeth in a short time.

Our whitening kits offer patients with the option of whitening during the day (when you’re watching TV for example) or can be applied overnight in your sleep.

Who is allowed to perform teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening is a dental treatment that should only be performed by a regulated dental professional such as a dental hygienist or therapist.

You might see teeth whitening offered in beauty salons and other businesses, but this is completely illegal if a regulated dental professional isn’t present. Not only that, but treatment in this way could put your teeth at risk of permanent damage. You should always consult a dentist if you’re thinking of receiving teeth whitening treatment.

All of our dental professionals at Benson Dental are registered with the General Dental Council and are regulated by the Care Quality Commission. We only practice the highest standards of dentistry and carry out your teeth whitening in a safe and effective manner.

Teeth whitening is a very safe dental treatment, but if not carried out by a dental professional the teeth whitening agent might aggravate pre-existing dental conditions such as gum disease.

What are the benefits of teeth whitening?

Teeth whitening allows you to look and feel more attractive and can be a huge confidence booster for some patients. It’s an incredibly affordable dental treatment which allows dental makeover results, especially when compared to the price of a full set of crowns or veneers.
